America Did Not Lose the Vietnam War

Posted by Cooper Abrams

I am a Vietnam Veteran. I served in 1966-67 in the Air Force at Tan Son Knut, Vietnam. I lost a dear friend from my home town during that time who was a Marine stationed at Da Nang. It has always bothered me that it looked like we lost the war there and David's life was wasted. Yet, our men and women in the United States military never lost a battle during the war. They fought hard and bravely and they fought to win.

However, when I read what General Westmoreland said in 1985 it lifted my spirits and I realized all those America hero's who gave their lives and who faithfully served this country did not die or serve in vain. This is made clear by General Westmoreland's statement quoted below. These are his words:

GENERAL WILLIAM WESTMORELAND

         1. We did not lose the war in Vietnam. The documents have now been made pubic. The Soviet Union's objective was to take Southeast Asia and then close the Singaporean straits: the major shipping channel between east and west at that time. Our objective was to stop that from happening: which we did.

         2. The heads of state from five different Southeast Asian countries have all expressed gratitude to the United States, and some of them to me personally for fighting communism in Vietnam so that they did not have to fight communism in their own countries.

         3. Thailand, Malaysia,Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines all remain free today in part, because of the American Military who served in Vietnam.

AMERICA DID NOT LOSE THE WAR. IT WAS NOT FOUGHT IN VAIN.
